I am so excited to launch my new online dog training community, Savvy City Dog! I haven't released it to the public quite yet, but I am now offering training to Good Dog DC clients via SCD.
Also, my email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org emails are not always reliable these days. The best way to reach me is via my new site at email@example.com.
Through www.savvycitydog.com, you can schedule private sessions, as well as join our online community. The format is more user friendly, and just super cool. I think as the site grows it will become even more awesome and effective! I really hope to see you there!

Aggression, fear, or anxiety? We know how embarrassing, frustrating, and heartbreaking these issues can be. Let us help.
Private in-home dog training sessions are one of the most effective ways to train your dog.
Private dog training sessions are designed exclusively for your individual needs. Want to meet once per week? No problem. Need to make progress quickly and want to meet twice per week? We are happy to!
In-home dog training sessions are designed exclusively for your dog's needs. If your dog doesn't respond using standard training techniques, we can easily adjust our approach during the training session, ensuring that your dog is as successful as possible. Many dogs have unique training needs, and a one-size-fits-all approach does not always work. For those dogs, private training sessions can easily give you the edge needed to get through to your dog.
Who should be at the training? It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Everyone who you would like the dog to listen to should participate in the training. For behavior cases, all of the regular caretakers of the dog should participate.
What do I need to do before our session? Try not to feed your dog just before our training session. If our session is late in afternoon, it is okay to feed your dog 1/2 his normal breakfast. If our session is in the evening, please feed your dog breakfast, but hold off on dinner until after the session. This will help to encourage the dog to focus and stay motivated for our training session.
For the private dog training session, we will bring treats and toys, but please have a few on hand that you know your dog really likes just in case your dog doesn't like the ones we bring. Other than that, just stick with your normal routine and make sure your dog has a chance to pee and poop before our training session so that your dog can be fully focused on learning!
Will my dog be trained after my training package? Sort of! The private training sessions will show you everything you need to know to get your dog to where you want with training. It is the implementation of the training program by you that guarantees longterm success. After our obedience packages, your dog will have learned all of the basic commands, but will still need regular practice and work in a variety of environments in order to continue proofing the training. After our behavior packages, you will see massive changes in your dog's behavior; however, it will require consistency from you in order to maintain the changes.
Why do you recommend training packages? We have worked hard to figure out the most effective training solutions for you and your dog. What is clear to us, is that a commitment to training is absolutely required to see any sort of lasting behavior change. While we may be able to give you all of the information you need in just one or two sessions, it takes repetition and follow up for both the humans and the dog in order to maintain the training. There may be less expensive trainers out there, but if you're looking for solid training with lasting results, we promise the investment is worth it!
Do you guarantee your training? As members of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, we follow their Code of Ethics, which prohibits us from guaranteeing training. Much like you can teach your kids to do their homework everyday when they get home from school. Even though they may almost always do their homework, you can not guarantee they will do their homework everyday. Environmental changes, physical health, whether or not you are home, whether their normal teacher is present, whether their friends are going out right after school, etc. may all influence whether or not they do their homework on any given day.
Like kids, dogs are sentient beings, not robots, so we can never guarantee what they will do.
However, with our training, you will be able to reasonably predict what your dog will do. You will also stack the odds in your favor for a behaviorally and emotionally healthy dog, which will give you and your dog the best relationship possible.
What happens after my dog training program? For most people, private sessions are a great way to jump start a training program.
If you are serious about longterm behavior change, I
highly recommend completing a training package, and then following up in 6 months or so with a refresher (pre-existing clients can purchase single sessions, which are perfect for follow up).
